Central Power Supply
CENTRAL POWER SUPPLY
The CPS provides regulated 7 volt DC power to operate the Body Computer Module (BCM), the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), and the Driver Information Center (DIC) panel.
This is a critical component of the electronics and communications systems on the car, so any malfunction can cause any of a number of constant or intermittent symptoms.
The CPS is located next to the brake pedal on 1987 through 1989 Allantés, and behind the DIC panel on 1990 through 1992 Allantés.
There are Technical Service Bulletins written about defective CPS modules for the early Allanté years. If your CPS is anything other than part number 16088406, it is immediately suspect.
That part number replaces all other part numbers for CPS modules for all years.
The most common symptoms of CPS failure are instrument cluster displays flashing on and off, System Fault messages, or other communication problems among the electronic components of the car.
In addition to the CPS problems, some Allantés have experienced problems with wiring harness connectors going into the CPS.
Allantesource can help with this too. Although this part is no longer available from Cadillac, we can provide a connector with reworked ends ready to install in your car.
Please free to call or e-mail us with your symptoms, and we will see what we can do to help.
1993 Allante's do not have a central power supply.
